Overall, I am happy with the final poster I created for the art of ping pong, and I'm happy with the route I took to get there. I think I adapted well and was flexible in what I chose to do, as the final poster was quite different to what I initially planned, even quite different to what I had in mind when I stated making it. I also can't think of anything I would change about the final poster. That's not to say I think it's perfect and couldn't be improved upon, but I can't think of anything I would change about it. To improve upon it I think I would simply need to play around with it in photoshop for a couple of hours, seeing what else I could do with it and what worked. I'd also get other people to give their opinions on it, to see if they could suggest something to improve from their fresh perspective. Perhaps I'd spend more time working on the background of the poster, to take it from fitting the style of the poster to reframing the poster itself and being an essential aspect of it. However, I still don't know what specific changes I would make to achieve this. I could also try different things during the process of burning the bat, or even different mediums, like using the burnt remains of the bat as a physical piece, rather than the basis for a poster. I don't think the route I went down was any worse or better than any of the variations or alternatives I could have gone with, it was just the one that I happened to pursue. Maybe if I redid it I would instead make a series of posters, rather than just the one, which would enable me to explore multiple mutually exclusive routes. But if I could change just one thing about the whole project, it would definitely be starting earlier; I had more time than I left myself with. In addition to that, there were a couple of themes I was initially considering that I didn't get to develop as much as I would've liked. One was the idea of creating something with the ping pong bat that was unique to this very specific medium. In general, the idea of something being impossible to replicate outside its original medium is of interest to me (for example, how panelling is used in comics, which I've examined briefly before), and trying to come up with something like that for the highly specific and restricting medium of a ping pong bat would've been an interesting challenge, but ultimately I went for a poster as that felt more natural to me and allowed me more freedom. The other theme was just creating a stronger tie to my personal experience with lockdown. There was certainly an element of that, but it wasn't as prominent or as fundamental as I was originally planning on. Despite this, overall I am quite happy with what I've produced given the circumstances, and I wouldn't make any significant alterations to the poster, and I don't think it's only just adequate, I do like the final result.
